August is a busy month on Martha’s Vineyard Island. Many of the seasonal events happen during this month. One event you should definitely try to attend is the Agricultural fair. It takes place in mid August and it is an old time fair, with the emphasis on Agriculture and they way life used to be lived in rural communities.
A large, flat, grassy meadow is the location about mid island. The Island Transportation buses run special service to the Fair and you receive a discount on your ticket if you travel by bus.
Cows ,chickens, pigs,horses, oxen, and many more animals compete for blue ribbons and so do home grown vegetables, flowers, preserves , photographs , paintings and,crafts.
The grounds are easy for small children to walk and yet large enough so that everything is not crowded together in a cramped space. It is easy to spend a few hours taking in all the exhibits and activities, not to mention the food. The local Firemen always have a great burger booth and several local restaurants have booths with a sampling of their menus. Continue reading
